- Chemical Crinoline
- CHEMICAL CRINOLINEThe term applied to a specially prepared fabric used as a ground for embroidering and afterwards the cloth is heated until decomposed and is then shaken out as dust, leaving the embroidery work intact. The cloth is treated with a mixture of starch, dextrine and sulphuric acid; after starching with this, it is stretched and dried at a very low temperature. After embroidering the goods are heated in an oven or chamber and baked for about 20 minutes. The crinoline can then be easily removed, leaving the imitation lace material untouched. (Also termed Burnt-out Lace)
